Generali Slovenia created a safer way for children to go to school

A new school year is about to starting and Generali Slovenia wants to make it memorable and safer for kids and their parents in Velenje and Ptuj municipalities. With this purpose it has been launched the “3D zebras project”, together with Zavod Varna pot (Safe Journey Institute) and the afore mentioned municipalities. The innovative pedestrian crossings, with the help of an optical illusion, raise the driver's attention to slow down before crossing. The goal is reducing the traffic accidents involving the most vulnerable road users, such as children, the disabled, the elderly, pedestrians, cyclists and those on roller skates and scooters.

“This group represents almost half of all traffic fatalities. In 2020, a total of 39 vulnerable road users died, representing 49 percent of all deaths” - pointed out Robert Štaba from the Safe Route Institute. These figures also prompted Generali Insurance Company to take action. "In the insurance company Generali, together with the Safe Route Institute and municipalities, we want to draw attention to the issue of traffic safety in an innovative way and contribute to reducing the number of traffic accidents in calm areas," said Svetlana Almaš, Generali Slovenia director of marketing and public relations.

The Municipality of Velenje will be the first to present 3D zebras

In Velenje, the first 3D zebras will come to life in locations where many children and young people cross the road, between Rudarska and Prešernova cesta at the Velenje Administrative Unit and in the immediate vicinity of the Velenje educational center, where the Gustav Šilih Primary School and the Fran Music School are located. Korun Koželjski, School Center Velenje, Higher Vocational School for Environmental Protection and the Faculty of Energy. The Mayor of Velenje, Peter Dermol, said at the new acquisition: “We are happy and proud to be the first municipality in Slovenia to join the initiative of placing 3D zebras in calm traffic areas, which was initiated by Generali Insurance Company and the Safe Route Institute. We placed the 3D zebras in a location where there are many pedestrians, including children, among the traffic participants. We are convinced that they will make them more visible and thus safer”. Soon, the 3D zebra will "come to life" in Ljubljana as well.
