From 2022 Generali Česká pojišťovna will not continue to insure CEZ Group's conventional coal-fired power plants

From 2022 Generali Česká pojišťovna will not continue to insure CEZ Group's conventional coal-fired power plants. This decision to end the cooperation in the field of coal insurance was reached after a mutual agreement between the largest Czech insurance company and CEZ Group.

Fighting the climate crisis and supporting climate action are key priorities for Generali Česká pojišťovna and the entire Generali Group, of which the insurance company is a part. "That is why we are limiting our activities in the area of coal-fired power plant insurance. An example is the current agreement with CEZ Group," comments Karel Bláha, Member of the Board of Directors of Generali Česká pojišťovna, adding: "We agree with the scientific community on the need for rapid decarbonisation, starting with the energy sector. In the last two years, we have decided not to renew insurance coverage for four coal-related companies, as we have not obtained from them a satisfactory transition plans. Of course, we are constantly updating our strategy to combat the climate crisis."
